These are all good, and of course the list could have included hundreds of little suggestions (except for the minor technicality that the post is called "5 Little Things - To Help The Environment".

My favorite for years has been to bring our own bags when we go shopping. This has become very popular in our town now, which is great. But I recall a decade ago when people looked at me funny for doing this and some clerks even refused to pack my bags because the handles wouldn't hang from the bag supports they had (no big deal, as I prefer to pack my own bags).

Yes, I see how that explains a lot of things. But how does it explain that some people like to spend years staring at a box watching the people inside living alternative lives, but other people like to spend years canoeing and hiking and swimming and skating? I think somewhere in the mix the monkey and the dog might have cross-bred. :-)

Thanks for writing about this! I am amazed at how little time most parents actually spend with their kids - it's scary!!

We are a family who travels together on bikes - so we are together 24/7. It's such a wonderful experience being out traveling together with our kids - and seeing the world through their eyes.

We are now getting ready to ride our bikes from Alaska to Argentina. We figure the journey will take about 2 1/2 years - the thing I'm most looking forward to is being with my boys all day long every day!!

You can read about our journey at www.familyonbikes.org

Five good causes making up a meaningful post. Thanks for your thoughts on human rights. As the Preamble to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights reminds us, “…recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.”

Bruce, these are all worthy causes, thank you for sharing them. I've checked out all of them and submitted a few letters as well.

I'd also urge others to take a look at American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).

I recently became a member with them. They are an organization supporting and defending our civil liberties as declared in the constitution. They've been a non-profit org. since their founding in the early 1920's. If you'd like to take action, but don't know what to do, I highly recommend consider taking a look at some of their initiatives. =)
